My PBS Experience

Last weekend, I went to Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Ketereh in Kelantan for my “Program Berorientasikan Sekolah (PBS)” for a week. This is the first time I went for PBS in the school outside of Malacca. It was really a wonderful and unforgettable experience in my life as a trainee teacher to learn other countries languages and cultures. Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Ketereh is one of the most excellent elementary school in Kelantan and in the matter of time, it will become the cluster school in the country.
The headmaster, teachers and the staffs were really nice to me and treated me like I was a part of the school society. Actually, I am very attracted with the headmaster of the school who is a very hardworking and friendly person to me. When I first met him, he asked me what is the real reason I want to be a teacher and also gave his 17 years experience as a teacher as an advise. I still remember his words when he said that it is not easy to be a great teacher but the passion to see our students succeed in whatever they are doing will eventually wash away all the difficulties and the pains of being a teacher.
He also said to me that even if I don’t really choose this field in the first place, but since I’m already on it, just do my best and show people how good I can be as a teacher who not just teach the syllabus to the students but also give them spirit and advise like a real mother to them. Beside, one of the many great things about the headmaster is that I always saw him around the school like when he talked to the canteen’s worker, taught in the class and interacted with the school’s staff. Even when I went to his office in my last day, I also saw he was doing the job like key in the data of the results of his teaching subject by himself. This proved to me that the title of the headmaster owned by him can’t be a reason for him to just sit in the office, read the newspaper and get the big salary at the end of the month.
I learned that it takes more than that to be a good teacher. The thing is we have to try hard when we are doing something that we love like teaching. When the situation is mess up, just learn from the mistake and enjoy your days as a teacher so that the students can feel the joy as well when they are learning.

The Characteristics of A Good Teacher

Everyone has their own definition of what a good teacher means to them. As for me, I think a good teacher is someone who acts like a parent, sibling, friend and the best tutor in my life. He or she can changes my point of view in this life, determines and believes in my potential to succeed. Hana Ahmad, fifth-grade teacher at Orangewood Elementary in Fort Myers and a 2001 Golden Apple award winner once said that a good teacher is a facilitator of learning, one who gives out the information and explains things. It’s someone who sees students as a whole person, and tries to address the whole child. They have high expectations, but also compassion.
The very first quality to become a good teacher is having a great patience in yourself no matter how bad the surrounding keep pressure yourselves. In this world, there are many types of students that a teacher has to deal with wether they like it or not. In addition, a good teacher also has to communicate well with their parents who always believe in their child’s words more than what the teacher say. Moreover, from my experience there were many time when I or my classmate, would just not understanding a particular concept especially in Matehematics subject. My best teacher had to keep explaining about it to the whole class again and again until all of us were clearly understand.  That is why they said that the best teachers just stuck with it, willing to do what it took, no matter how long it took.
Beside, a good teacher must has confidence in whatever he or she is doing. A teacher can’t teach without confidence. Students won’t believe in a teacher that first doesn’t believe in themselves. Good teachers are confident that they know how to teach, and in what they are teaching. However, teachers encounter different types of situations all the time that could be considered setbacks. Kids can be cruel, to each other and to teachers. They can have attitudes, especially teenagers who are usually tend to rebel during their teenagers years when they are  trying to find their own identity. In those time, belief in ourselves despite the setbacks. Nevertheless, when the young teachers go to school, they obviously nervous when they teach. Some of them are shy and only half committed to their subject. But the best teachers laugh off their mistakes like when the chalk breaking, books dropped and TVs not working. When some teachers are flustered, the good teachers just shrug and keep going on with the lesson and sometimes even joking about the mess up. These teachers knew they are also human and knew mistakes happen. They don’t take things personally and let problems get them upset.
Last but not least, in order to be a good teacher, one must love their job and what they are doing right now. Awesome teachers love to teach and they are not doing it for the money, prestige or glory but they teach because it brings them an incredible feeling of satisfaction knowing that they are contributing positively to the futures of others. If a teacher doesn’t have this inner satisfaction, and does not enjoy what they do, they’ll never be able to make lasting impressions in their students minds. Passion has great impact, and this is something that all really good teachers must have.
In a nutshell,  a good teacher may has many qualities in themselves but the most important part is the willingness and their true feelings to teach their students whole-heartedly and brighten their students’ future by sharing their knowledge and help with their problems. There is a quote by Dan Rather saying that “The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called "truth”."

The Beauty Within You

It has been a while since I last updated this blog. Lots of work need to be done, actually.
Right now, I want to share one of my favourite song, Who Says by Selena Gomez. Yeah, It's an old song but it just crossed my mind while I was doing my works.
This is some of the lyrics.

 Who Says

I wouldn't wanna be anybody else
hey
You made me insecure,
Told me I wasn’t good enough.
But who are you to judge
When you’re a diamond in the rough?
I’m sure you got some things
You’d like to change about yourself.
But when it comes to me
I wouldn’t want to be anybody else.

I’m no beauty queen
I’m just beautiful me

You’ve got every right
To a beautiful life
C'mon
Who says, who says you're not perfect?
Who says you're not worth it?
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'?
Trust me, that's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty?
Who says you're not beautiful?
Who says?

It’s such a funny thing
How nothing’s funny when it’s you
You tell ‘em what you mean
But they keep whiting out the truth
It’s like a work of art
That never gets to see the light
Keep you beneath the stars
Won’t let you touch the sky

I found this song is so inspiring. It is true, indeed. Everyone is beautiful in their own ways. So, treat others the same way you want to be treated. Don't easily make fun of others imperfection because nobody is perfect.  Instead, their imperfection makes they are more attractive.

"“What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.”

First Love

Hello, readers...I bet when you read the title of my entry, someone special from your past will appear in your mind. It doesn't matter whether he/she was your first crush in primary school or someone from your neighborhood whom you admire in your teenage years. They said first love will remain forever in our heart. Some of us experienced the first love in the early age and the lucky ones will last forever as husband and wife. Nevertheless, some of us ended up with tearful break ups and horrible pain.

It's really hard actually to forget someone who you thought will be the one spending the entire life together with you until the very end. However, cheer up, dear friends because right now I will give you the most effective ways to forget about your first love. Here are the tips :

1. Cry. It's okay to cry. Just let it all out. Scientist had proven that crying releases hormones called endorphins that acts as painkillers for your body. Furthermore, crying also flushes away a number of harmful toxins existing in your body.

2.  Cut off all communication with your ex. This maybe the most agony way to forget someone whom you used to talk with every single day but believe it or not, you will get better day by day.

3. Your family and friends are the best person to spend the time with at this difficult moments. You can share and open up about your feeling with them and you can also ask for some advice and comfort.

4. Do not try to find out how your ex is doing if you are in the healing process. Don't ever try to check his/her Facebook status every single day because it will only make you feel worse when you see he/she is doing completely fine without you.

5. Be strong and keep telling yourself that when someone leaves, it's because someone else is about to arrive. Someone who is much better than your ex and what is the most important, don't afraid to fall in love again or else you won't get married until you die. :)

Kevin

Based on the story "Kevin" written by Catherine Lim, I can see the imbalance relationship between Kevin and her mother where her mother mostly dominated the relationship. She is a fierce, perfectionist  and unreasonable kind of mother. At the other side, Kevin is an obedient and passive boy although he is a very smart student. Things were going so complicated for Kevin when he had to study really hard to achieve 95 percent marks or more in every test he sat in order to satisfy his mother. To make the situation worse, Kevin felt so stress and fed up with his mother when she always nagged at him and even warned him to do his best or else he will get punishment such as twisting of the ears, a caning on the legs and buttocks and a withdrawal of permission to watch TV or to go to a cinema for a month.

Furthermore, when Kevin got the high marks, his mother never fulfilled his dream and just brought anything that she thought was good for him. Pity Kevin when his mother brought him a pair of sneakers eventhough he asked for a pair of football boots to go and play football with Boon Kee. Her mother also controlled his friends by not letting him be friend with Boon Kee because in her opinion, he can gave him bad influence. One thing that made me amazed with his mother's behaviour was how she managed to keep a file full of Kevin's marked exercises and tests.

I know that Kevin's mother wanted the best from him since he is her only son in this world but from my point of view, the way she acted was quite troublesome and only bringing deterioration in a long term for Kevin. Can you imagine what kind of person Kevin will be if he was treated like that along his teenager years? Kevin will probably becomes one of the persons who are dependable and can't make a right decision in his future life because we can see in this story that her mother always decided anything for him. In addition, Kevin will also become an antisocial and unskillful person in the communication techniques if he follows her choosy mother's rules on how to choose a friend.

No matter how bad your mother is, at the end of the day, she still the only mother you have in this world. Eventhough Kevin's mother treated him not the way he wanted but I think that Kevin and his mother should speak up from heart to heart and try to solve the problems tolerantly despite their differences in opinion and behaviour. They should appreciate each other more and at the end of the story, Kevin also should pray for his mother's healthy. In a nutshell, this story is worthy to read as it remind us about our parents and how we should treat them well.

A young boy said to his mother, "How old were you when I was born?"
His mother replied, "23."
"Wow, that's a lot of time we missed spending together."

A Cake Maniac

Hi...Last weekend, I spent my holiday at my best friend's house. It's been a while since I last visited her family. Actually, I was not planning to come to his house at all but my instincts told me to do so at the very last minute..huhuhu.. A bit info about my best friend..she is an expert chef but I'm the vice versa.. :)
Maybe because she is one of the older sisters in her family..3/4 of his siblings are the boys and that is one of the strong reasons why she is a good cooker I guess. On our way back, we also met a cute boy with his grandfather when we stopped for a while to fetch my friend's youngest sister. He is so cute that made me felt want to grab him and just take him home to keep for myself.

Hi...Am I cute??

OK.. back to the topic..actually we planned to make 2 types of cakes, Orange Sponge Cake and Banana Cake...but at the end of the day, she managed to make 6 cakes in just two days. Can you believe how crazy she is when it comes to bake a cake.. I just can shook my head when I saw how strong her determination. If she felt the cake was not good enough, she will make it again the next morning. The only advantage about it for me is I can eat the cake as much as I can..haha

Some of the cakes...

Chocolate Sponge Cake

Pandan Sponge Cake

Banana Cake

Orange Sponge Cake
Besides, I also spent a lot of time with her family members. I helped her mother made the lunch and played the games with her younger brothers and sister. We also went to shopping for a while at the evening and enjoyed ourselves very much with unstoppable jokes and laughter. How lucky I am because her family treated me really well and made me felt as I am the part of the family. It also reminded me about my family and made me realized how much I miss to spend time with them. OK, see you again :)

Summary of Drove Roads

The drovers had to overcome the problem of the long journey when the hungry cattle needed sufficient quantities of food to sustain them throughout their journey. As a solution, they had to rely on the food that could be found along the way. The drovers also had to ride ahead on horseback to control the cattle from spread out over considerable distances. To avoid the drovers from paid for any damage that the cattle had done, they had to be careful so that the cattle did not stray into private land to feed. Furthermore, the drover has to cope with bands of robbers who might violently attack him for his money or drive off some of his cattle. They also had to have an intimate knowledge of the temperament of his animals. Besides, the cattle must not be overdrive so that they can reach their market in prime condition and the drovers can get the best prices from the butcher.

SOLUTIONS

Have you ever wondered why can't you find the solutions for some of your problems?
Well, not all of the questions in this world can be solved by using logical methods. Maybe some of the problem is just a part of you.You may think you have a lot of insecurities with your appearance but the truth is your imperfections make you more attractive.

Don't stress yourself when you can't find the solutions for your problems. In fact, problems keep us alive. They make us think, reflect and indeed make us stronger than what we used to be. Just try to remember back, what were your problems years ago. Then think the solutions that you took in order to survive. I just want to tell you that the decisions you made years ago that what make you are today. Bear in mind that people don't get stronger by the joy, but by the challenges that they are dare to take everyday.

So, challenge yourself and see how far you can go. Don't be too afraid if you take the wrong one because it will make you become wiser and different from anyone else. Don't be one of those people who think that they won if they can find the solutions for all of their problems. Just try to figure out the solutions that are unique and then enjoy the experiences!! Good Luck :)

" Everything in life is temporary. So, if things are going good, enjoy it because it won't last forever. And if things are going bad, don't worry. It can't last forever either."
